Short Guide to Baltimore
Baltimore, the largest city in Maryland, feeds into the Chesapeake Bay from the mouth of the Patapsco River. A place reknowned for ship building, Baltimore services the Atlantic Ocean and gives berth to a large number of army vessels.
During the War of 1812, the ships known as the Baltimore clippers captured or destroyed many of the British trading ships. Baltimore managed to overcome an attack by Britain and, during an assault on Fort McHenry, the victorious display of the American flag gave inspiration to the country's national anthem.
After its vital role in this historical revolution, the area has experienced a troubled times as fortunes see-sawed; a period of prosperity met the violence of divided allegiances during the war between the north and the south.
a rich 19th century collapsed under the devastating fire in 1904 followed by the great depression left the entire nation in shambles. The distinct neighborhoods are an interesting highlight of Baltimore including; the old maritime area known as Fells Point, wealthy avenues of affluent Mt. Vernon, the cosy environment of Little Italy and the rather unconventiona neighborhood of southwest Baltimore also known as SoWeBo.
The Charm City, coined nickname for its fusion of small town hospitality and city finesse, combines an interesting mix of neighborhoods, attractions, and delicious seafood from the Inner Harbor such as Maryland steamed blue crabs.
